For those who travel the stars of the Milky Way galaxy, the use of weapons is another part of daily life. Whilst some civilised places like The Citadel may have restrictions on carrying weapons, much of the galaxy is a lawless place where raiders, slavers, and other dangerous creatures like to operate. When help can be hours away, it's best to learn to rely on your own skills and tools to help your survive.
In the Mass Effect universe, guns no longer rely on ammo or reloading. Instead of bullets, guns use mass effect fields to fire near-microscopic metal shards at high-speeds, impacting with a greater force than traditional bullets. Whilst this gives the user functionally limitless ammo, it comes at the cost of generating large amounts of heat, which must periodically be vented to prevent the weapon from overheating and causing internal damage.
Each weapon will have a 'Heat Capacity' listed in its description. Every time the weapon is fired it generates 1 Heat. If a weapon's current Heat reaches its Heat Capacity, the weapon can no longer be fired. To reduce the Heat of a weapon you must spend a Main Action to 'Vent' the weapon, cooling the weapon back down to 0 Heat. In some scenarios it may be more strategic to vent a weapon early, before it reaches its capacity.
If firing a gun underwater, all stats are halved.
If firing a gun in the vacuum of space, the effective range is doubled but heat capacity is halved.
If you equip a weapon for which you do not have the training, you suffer disadvantage on all of its attack rolls.
